Campagnolo and Biondo have, since 2010, sought out a new language of research by re-examining time-honoured artistic techniques and reworking them in an updated semantic context. Their work is primarily interested in the deconstruction of materials and concepts and in the redistribution of light.

Salvo Biondo was born in Palermo in 1965. He studied stage design at the Academy of Palermo and graduated in 1990. Interior artist and scenographer for television, film, and theatre, Biondo lived in Sydney from 1995 to 2002, where he worked in photography and interior design. In 2010 he founded CamBio along with Paolo Campagnolo. Biondo lived between Barcelona, Madrid and Rome, where he died in March 2018.

Paolo Campagnolo was born in Rome in 1965. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna. From 1989 to 1995 he lived between London, Berlin, and Rome, all the while in search of new pictorial languages. The diversity of the works produced by Campagnolo in this period can be witnessed in the artist’s continual usage of new types of media in different forms of art, which the artist assembled and then abandoned in places where the passage of time and the natural process of decomposition which it provokes could take their toll.

Description of the works presented here: strips of linen, cotton, and jute canvas are applied with gold, silver, copper, and aluminium leaf and treated with acids, minerals, and resins.
The treated strips of canvas are then individually sewn onto a textile base where they assume vibrant, luminescent, dynamic characteristics.

Campagnolo and Biondo, both artists enriched by different, yet harmonious, backgrounds, experiment in a visual idiom which has proven itself in the completion of international commissions both multidisciplinary in their scope and detailed in their specifications.

The duo has worked in Sydney, London, Kyoto, and New York, following a reflective path as artists which is not anchored in simple market trends: site-specific works commissioned by collectors in residential spaces, hotels, and other environments have acted as starting point for the development of new expressive procedures in the form of cross-over works, between tapestry and sculpture, which are unique in their complexity.
